“I’m Alex Deveney, 51 years old and married to Alison, with whom I have two sons. I worked as a bench-hand joiner for thirty years until 2016. I took time out to recover from illness and now have a day job and draw in the evenings and on my days off. I draw mostly portraits, and mostly of people, although I do receive lots of commissions for pet dogs and cats. I also draw views and various pieces for The Pirate and Bluebelle in Gourock, which I’m glad to say people seem to like. I have no formal training, I just started drawing for pleasure about three years ago and, through word of mouth, I started to receive commission requests which keep me constantly busy to this day.
I very much enjoyed taking part in the Inverclyde Open Studios project, and was delighted and humbled to be included in the company of the eight artists involved.”
