Garden centre urges customers to dig deep for Ukrainian Crisis Appeal

BOSSES at Cardwell Garden Centre have invited a well-known fiddle group to perform in a bid to raise money for the British Red Cross Ukrainian Crisis Appeal.

The Clyde Coast Fiddlers will play in the garden centre between 2pm and 4pm on Sunday, March 20.

And visitors to Cardwell, near Gourock are being urged to donate as much as they can during the performance to help the people of Ukraine who are suffering during the Russian bombardment of their cities and towns.

Donations to the bucket collection at Cardwell will be handed over to the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal to help refugees fleeing the war-torn country and those staying behind in Ukraine.

The money donated will be used to provide food, first aid, clean water, shelter support, warm clothing, hygiene parcels and medicines.

It will also help support Ukrainian hospitals, healthcare facilities, fire fighters, and civil protection units and train people in life-saving first aid.

The British Red Cross is part of the UK’s Disasters Emergency Committee, which unites 15 member charities who are experts in humanitarian aid and specialists in different areas of disaster response.

Judith Semple, from Clyde Coast Fiddlers explains: “We’ve all been appalled by what’s happening in Ukraine and we wanted to do something to help the people of that country.

“We do a lot of charity fund-raising performances throughout the year, but after witnessing what was happening in Ukraine, it was obvious that we should try to raise money for the Ukraine Crisis Appeal.”

Cardwell’s retail general manager, Paul Carmichael said: “We hope visitors to Cardwell will give as much as they can to this humanitarian appeal.

“It’s a hugely worthwhile cause to raise money for.”
