Ardgowan House, Castle & Gardens

Heritage & History

Be inspired by the past!

In the same family, the Shaw Stewarts, since 1406, Ardgowan has centuries of history wrapped up in a truly breath taking house, castle and garden estate.

Book a tour and delve in to a past thick with battles and witch hunts. Even encounters with Robert the Bruce, Napoleon and Florence Nightingale are woven into the estate’s colourful history.

Exploring both upstairs and downstairs, tours are designed to appeal to specialists, amateurs and enthusiasts alike, so whether you’re interested in history, keen to discover more about the area or simply curious to see inside, book Ardgowan and be inspired by the past.

The gardens are delightful and well worth a visit, but the house really comes to life at one of the many dining experiences, murder mystery evenings, weddings and afternoon tea’s.

Dine like a duchess and feel like a movie star as you may even recognise some of the sets from recent film and TV productions!
