A host of festive fun is on the way across Inverclyde this month as Christmas lights switch on events take place.
The countdown to Christmas will begin in Greenock on Thursday 21 November with a fun-filled afternoon of seasonal entertainment.
From 4.30pm there will be street entertainers including stilt-walking angels and face painters in Cathcart Square and at 5pm, Brass Sounds Inverclyde will perform some traditional festive tunes in the Oak Mall and at 5.30pm children have the change to come say hello to Santa.
From 6pm, West FM radio presenter Ali Wright will be the compere on the steps of Wellpark Mid Kirk Church in Cathcart Square. She’ll introduce singers, a performance from Brass Sounds Inverclyde and also welcome stars of this year’s Beacon Arts Centre’s panto, Jack and the Beanstalk.
Following a festive singalong, Depute Provost Graeme Brooks will switch on the Christmas lights with Santa at 7pm.
In Gourock, the fun begins at 6pm in Kempock Gardens on Friday 22 November then it’s the turn of Port Glasgow on Wednesday 27 November from 6pm outside the library.
On Friday 29 November, it’s over to the villages with Quarriers Village up first from 3.30pm at the Village Centre, followed by festivities at Inverkip Hub from 5.30pm, Kilmacolm’s Cargill Centre from 6pm and Wemyss Bay Community Centre from 7pm.
Depute Provost Graeme Brooks said: “The annual Christmas lights switch-on events are always great events which bring everyone in our communities together to celebrate.
“It’s a lovely way to start the festivities and get ready for the season.
“The entertainment is always top class and I’m looking forward to taking part and seeing many families, friends and people of all ages joining in the fun.”
