The 2022 Kip Regatta, the first ‘Major’ Regatta of the Scottish sailing season, takes to the River Clyde on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th of May from Kip Marina and promises two days of exciting racing and a very welcome return after a 2-year hiatus.
Traditionally a good testing ground for race boats new to the Clyde, Kip Regatta is also an opportunity for locally experienced crews to work their boats up ready for Scottish Series later in June. The long-standing partnership between Kip Marina and Royal Western Yacht Club, with their expert race management skills, provides exhilarating racing for sailors of all abilities and Kip Regatta offers new skippers and boats a perfect introduction to racing in the beautiful west coast of Scotland.
Kip Regatta 2022 is delighted to be part of Inverclyde’s ‘Meliora Festival’ a series of events providing an opportunity for communities to socialise and reconnect with others during the summer starting with Gourock’s Highland Games on Sunday 8 May and continuing with Kip Regatta, the British Pipe Band Championships, and a host of other events through till the end of June.
With a large entry predicted for 2022, Kip Regatta has race classes for IRC, CYCA and the usual array of one designs – Sigma 33, Sonata, Etchells and 707’s etc., and a dedicated Sports Boats section increasing the excitement and appeal of this already well supported season opener.
Shore side The Chartroom Restaurant & Bar plays host to the après sail events with the legendary Shore Party on the Saturday night featuring live music from the amazing ‘Jimallywhy’. For the early riser Café Riva also provides great breakfasts and pre-ordered lunch packs for hungry sailors throughout the weekend!
On Sunday, The Chartroom is the venue for the prestigious prize giving ceremony when the successful skippers and crews are recognised and rewarded with the iconic RWYC silverware and an array of other prizes courtesy of the sponsors!
For race entrants Kip Marina is providing special packages for hoisting, berthing and storage for boats both prior to and after the event and full details will be available with the Notice of Race and Entry Forms available from www.kipmarina.co.uk.
