Port Glasgow, the second largest town in the area, originated as the main port for trading ships taking their wares to Glasgow. The town itself spreads upwards on the hills behind and is predominately residential.
The Comet, the worlds first steam passenger ship was built here and is celebrated every year in June, with the Comet Festival. It is also home to the last of the shipbuilders in this area of the Clyde.
The main retail park in the area offers a variety of mainstream retail chains in a large outdoor area, such as Boots, Next and Marks & Spencers.
