72nd Greenock & District Tennis Championships now able to take place

Life in Inverclyde

With the relaxations for sport as part of coming out of the coronavirus ‘lockdown’, the organisers are very pleased to be able to announce that this year’s Greenock and District Tennis championships, postponed from its usual July fortnight, will now takes place from 10th to 22nd August with the finals taking place at Ardgowan Tennis Club on Friday evening 21st and Saturday 22nd August. In addition to the adult events there will be an under 12 and an under 18 singles competitions.

The Clubs involved in the championships are Ardgowan and Fort Matilda Tennis Clubs in Greenock, and the clubs in Bishopton, Kilmacolm, Largs and Skelmorlie plus players with a normal Inverclyde residential address who may be members of other clubs.  Entry this year can only be made online here.

Click on events and scroll down to the Greenock and District competitions. Payment needs to be part of entering one of more competitions with a maximum of four competitions per player and entries must be made by Monday 3 August.

Announcing the 2020 Championships, the tournament organising chairman Chris Jewell said, ‘We are really glad not to have had to cancel this year’s tournament which will go ahead in line with the Covid-19 Guidelines and advice from Tennis Scotland. We would encourage all players from all the clubs involved to enter as for these local championships which are sure to again provide many exciting matches.’

The championships include men’s and ladies’ singles and doubles plus mixed doubles, veterans’ singles and veterans’ men’s doubles as well as the junior events.

The draw will be made on Thursday 6th August and all entrants will be advised by email.
