Greenock Esplanade Trail

The Route: 

You can start the route at either end of the Esplanade. The Royal West of Scotland Amateur Boat Club (RWSABC) is located at the western side of the Esplanade. As you walk westward along the south bank of the River Clyde, you will enjoy fine views of the hills and lochs of the Scottish Highlands.

Terrain: Tarmac 

What to Bring: A camera to capture the amazing views.

Look out for:

  • The Flashing Buoy: This buoy was placed to the north at Rosneath Patch in 1880 and was the first to use oil gas.
  • The houses built along The Esplanade were funded by profits made in shipping, shipbuilding, sugar, engineering, woollen manufacture and associated industries. Find more information about the houses history here.
