Port Glasgow is looking blooming great with a special flower bed installed in Coronation Park to mark the ongoing 250th anniversary celebrations.
The metal frame was manufactured and supplied by local company Inverweld as part of the council’s community benefits. The installation and bespoke carpet bedding display, placed to create the distinctive Port Glasgow 250 logo, were all installed by Parklea Branching Out.
The 3.6m x 2.5m frame is in place under the Shipbuilders of Port Glasgow sculpture in Coronation Park as part of the year of celebrations for the town’s anniversary.
Provost Drew McKenzie, said: “We’ve just enjoyed a fantastic two-day Comet Festival in Coronation Park and it’s great that the Port Glasgow 250 celebrations are continuing.
“Our public consultation showed that people were in favour of the flower bed display and Parklea have really brought it to life.
“With the school summer holidays coming up, Coronation Park will be even busier than usual so anyone visiting should make the time to pop over and see the display for themselves.”
Parklea Branching Out is a charity established in 1997 which uses horticulture to give work experience and employment opportunities to people with support needs, and is based in Port Glasgow.
Manager Sharon Gemmell, said: “We welcomed the chance to play our part in celebrating Port Glasgow’s 250th anniversary.
“We used over 5,000 plants and it took our team and trainees over a week to coordinate and install this unique display.
“We’re delighted with the final result and we hope the people of Port Glasgow, and everyone who visits Coronation Park, enjoys seeing the flowers bloom over the summer.”
