Inverclyde to light up for The Queen

31.05.2022

Life in Inverclyde

Inverclyde will join with communities across the country and the Commonwealth in lighting a beacon to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of HM The Queen.

The short ceremony, hosted by Inverclyde’s Provost Drew McKenzie, will mark 70 years on the throne – an achievement unequalled by any British Monarch.

Provost McKenzie said: “The Platinum Jubilee isn’t a once in a lifetime occasion it is a once in history occasion as no monarch has ever achieved this extraordinary milestone.

“You don’t have to be a royalist to recognise a young woman thrust into a role in tragic circumstances with the early death of her father and an individual who has given a lifetime of service to the country.

“This is an important milestone for her and for the country and one that it is entirely correct to mark and to mark the start of four days of celebration for the Platinum Jubilee.”

The beacon lighting will take place at Lyle Hill at 9.45pm on Thursday 2 June 2022 following a national protocol being carried out at ceremonies across the country. It will be preceded by a bugler and piper performing at the beacon.
