Port Glasgow to Finlaystone and Parklea

Walking Route

  • Distance5.8 Miles

Time: 2 hours

Route:

Starting at Port Glasgow Tesco, cross the main road at the pedestrian traffic lights and follow the path round to Burger King. Follow the pavement round to Coronation park and turn right to walk along the seawall. Exit Coronation Park, walk passed the Fire Station then round Ferguson Marine shipyard offices. Continue along the footpath passed Newark Castle, walk eastwards along the shore walkway for 1km. Walk along a well-made path around the perimeter of Kelburn park. Cross over the pavement at the exit of the park and continue for 600m, the path joins a park track and pass the stadium to reach Parklea car park. 1 mile from the carpark, the end of the route is along the beach and rough grass shoreline. The Finlaystone burn marks the eastern boundary of Inverclyde, and a scenic starting point for the Inverclyde coastal trail.

Terrain: Mixture of beach, rough grass and tarmac.

What to Bring: Camera to capture the beautiful scenery.

Look out for:

  • Newark Castle.
  • Ferguson Marine Engineering – a long tradition shipbuilding work.
